7+ hours of downtime. Joy.
This has been making the rounds in the past couple of days - and I had to share because it gave me many a chuckle. Plus, excellent film! I recommend seeing it without the format war subtitles.
Thank FSM something is going to make this primary season more bearable…controversy!
Multiple indications of vote fraud are beginning to pop up regarding the New Hampshire primary elections. Roughly 80% of New Hampshire precincts use Diebold machines, while the remaining 20% are hand counted. A Black Box Voting contributor has compiled a chart of results from hand counted precincts vs. results from machine counted precincts. In machine counted precincts, Clinton beat Obama by almost 5%. In hand counted precincts, Obama beat Clinton by over 4%, which closely matches the scientific polls that were conducted leading up to the election. Another issue is the Republican results from Sutton precinct. The final results showed Ron Paul with 0 votes in Sutton. The next day a Ron Paul supporter came forward claiming that both she and several of her family members had voted for Ron Paul in Sutton. Black Box Voting reports that after being asked about the discrepancy Sutton officials decided that Ron Paul actually received 31 votes in Sutton, but they were left off of the tally sheet due to ‘human error.’

So, Sony and a few others have had eBook readers for awhile…what’s the big deal about this one? Two things, apparently.
1) Amazon is behind it, meaning they’ll probably have more content. All NYT bestsellers and new books are $10. Presumably older books will be cheaper.
2) It uses frickin’ cell phone technology. That’s surprising, to say the least. No subscription fees (that’s why the thing costs $400) and you can shop for books anywhere you can get a cell phone signal.
It’s definitely not the hit out of the park that Amazon’s mp3 store is, but it’s not bad. Still too pricey, and…hello, fugly. I don’t want a keyboard on my book to remind me that I’m not really reading a book. I imagine that making the eInk screen look as good as it does and be touchscreen is out of the realm of possibility now, but if anything begs to have an onscreen keyboard, it’s this. You basically only want to be able to search for books to download. And maybe to search for the dirty parts in Forever…
