I’m still thinking the 2 big prizes will be split this year. I think they’ll give Paul Thomas Anderson the directing Oscar for There Will be Blood. But No Country really deserves a big award too. So the Coen brothers will get their second best picture nod.
What will REALLY make me mad though is if Persepolis doesn’t get the best animated feature award.
I’ve only seen Juno and No Country for Old Men. I loved both, but I would have a really hard time voting for either of them without seeing There Will be Blood first. Between Daniel Day Lewis and Upton Sinclair, I have to imagine that I’m going to like it best.
Has anyone read the book? I thought about buying a copy, but actually laughed out loud in the store when I read the back cover and it said “…as masterfully written as The Jungle,” or something similar. The Jungle was great, and hugely important, but it got pretty schlocky about 2/3 the way through (transitioning to heavy-handed preaching at the end).

I predict that I’m the only one on this site that hasn’t seen any of those movies.

Oh yeah, glad I waited to vote. There Will be Blood.
I really want it to be Blood or No Country…so it will probably go to Atonement. That movie really bored the crap outta me.
The fact that Atonement was laregely ignored helps me believe in the existance of good…
