Music discovered in 2007: Neko Case

Posted in Music, Rave on Dec 21, 2007 by Jeremy

My best musical discovery of 2007 was definitely Neko Case. I’m particularly fond of the songs “Things That Scare Me”, “Furnace Room Lullaby”, and “Deep Red Bells“.
What’s your best musical discovery of 2007?

Neko Case was a big one for me too, thanks to Jessica.

I also developed quite a crush on both Andrew Bird and The National more recently this year due to a certain roommate’s influence.

Sadly, since falling madly in love with both Neko Case and Arcade Fire in 2006, I’ve listened to precious little else. (For that reason, I’m rather grateful that Last.fm can’t scrobble my car stereo. It would make my profile even more boring.)

At the very least, this year I’ve discovered that I quite like Spoon’s latest disk, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Not in a marry-me-Neko kind of way, but so far it’s up to the task of repeated listenings while driving.

Feist - The Reminder. I checked her out when I saw her on the Bonnaroo list in Feb and had this album on heavy rotation all year.

Saul Williams, Justice and Future of the Left (well, not really discovred that last one as stalked; they’re the better half of what was once mclusky. Finally they put out an album.)

and, yeah, Neko fucking rocks…

It was only in the past few months that I finally heard Beirut, via good old eMusic, and now I’m so in love with them. It’s like Arcade Fire crossed with the Magnetic Fields and a band of gypsies. Or something. Just good, tasty stuff.
