I must say, we are rocking that fucking drum kit.

Singing and drumming have the most lasting value now. Guitar on medium is a little too easy, and on hard it’s way too hard. They add one more button, making five, but with only four fingers available, you have to want to sit down and learn more than I want to.

When we were in Times Square last week, the MTV store had a full game set up in the window so passersby could watch people playing. I desperately wanted to detour our entire evening there, but employment duty prevailed (we were there for the company holiday party).

I feel a certain amount of competitive compulsion to get some practice in before I come out to Oregon so you don’t completely kick my ass. I need to meet someone local with the whole setup. Unfortunately, everyone I know around here is too old and stodgy. And I’m not quite ready to shell out the bucks.

Oh, that’s the even better part…there is no ass-kicking (except the proverbial ass of Rock)

It’s all collaborative. I mean, you can do some competitive stuff if you want (we don’t), but really it’s all about trying to make it through the song with some dignity, and generally with the help of your friends.

The only thing that more practice would get you is just a basic familiarity with how stuff works, and the ability to get through some more difficult songs. We’ll just have to play a good chunk the first night, then let you sleep on it. that usually fine-tunes my brain as to how my hand-eye coordination should be working.

Hey David, is there a mode that lets you just use the drum pads as electronic drums? In other words, there’s no music to play along with, and when you hit it each drum makes a different noise through the sound system?

There isn’t, but there really should be.

The pads represent different drums, depending on the songs (the yellow is either a high hat or tom, I gather, if I knew what that meant) but, yeah, that seems like a no-brainer.

Actually, in the 20 seconds or so before the song starts you can bang away on them…also there are drum fill sections throughout the song where you get to drum away however you’d like.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that’s a feature they add later.

Holy shit, I just found out they released a scaled down version of Rock Band for the PS2!!

No downloadable content or purtifying your rock star with new clothes and hair, but it has all the same audio tracks as the nextGen consoles!

This might be my favorite Lily picture ever.
