Daily Show Writer Explains Writers Strike

Posted in Movies, Television, Web on Nov 16, 2007 by David Edwards

The gist:  Media companies don’t want to pay writers for content displayed online, because no one knows how much that’s worth, except that it’s worth $1 billion when Viacom sues YouTube over it.

Seems easy enough to fix…just give the writers a chunk of that billion…problem solved!

Hypocracy seems to be the real name of the game. I can’t say I’m surprised that the media companies aren’t willing to negotiate over internet content rights and residuals, but really - what the fuck are they going to do without union writers? They’re totally hosed if they don’t get to the bargaining table soon.
